"The Merge" remains the most expensive NFT of all time. It sold for $91.8 million in December 2021. Why is NFT so expensive? NFTs are non-fungible, which means the owner is the sole proprietor of the NFT.
The Merge is a project by Pak (Murat Pak), whose identity is unknown. Some believe it's a bunch of individuals, while others think it's just one guy. Even we do not know! However, we know that "The Merge" was on sale for 48 hours in December 2021.
Pak, a pseudonymous artist (or artist collective), has been influencing digital art and media for over 20 years. He is most known for developing Archillect, an AI designed to discover and distribute visual art. In early 2022, Sotheby's and Nifty Gateway sold Pak's NFT collection, The Fungible Collection, for $16.8 million.
"The Merge" was offered in "mass" quantities. Approximately 28,893 collectors purchased 295,417 copies, making it the world's most expensive nft.
